Supercalifragilistic service

Dandelion delivers for Retas’ winner Sarah to say thank you with a card

Celebrations and jubilations are in order for The Retas winners as they start sharing their achievement with customers and colleagues.

And, with social media posts abounding, Stationery Supplies and Dandelion Stationery have turned around a supercalifragilistic collaboration for a more traditional way of saying thank you to supporters – sending a card!

After winning the trophy for Best Greeting Card Retailer Initiative at The Retas ceremony exactly a week ago today, Sarah Laker, who owns Stationery Supplies’ two stores in Marple and Wilmslow, ordered 120 bespoke thank you cards to send to customers, and Dandelion’s founder Jo Wilson had the artwork created, cards printed, hand-finished, packed and dispatched all inside within 24 hours.

“What a service!” Sarah told PG Buzz, “Jo is amazing, the cards are perfect and I love that she thought to bespoke the back of the card for me too.

“The wording is ‘just to say thank you for…’ and the idea is that we’re thanking our customers for their support and they’re passing the thanks along to someone in their life, so it could be a thank you for being an all-round jolly good neighbour, or the lollipop lady for safe road crossings, or uncle Fred for always making you smile with bad jokes. And we’re asking them to post photos on social media using hashtag #GivingBack.”

Over at first-time winners Dee’s Cards in Leighton Buzzard, co-owners Paul Mordecai and Hannah Rudder have already dressed their High Street window with The Retas poster declaring they’re the Best Independent Greeting Card Retailer Home Counties & South East.

And their smart silver lady trophy is popping up regularly on Facebook posts with Hannah saying: “Still can’t get over that we’ve won – thanks to each and every one of you that comes in and supports our business. We couldn’t do it without you.”

The morning after the Mary Poppinsesque-themed event at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, Best Greeting Card Retailer Newcomer Hayley Bastable, owner of Newport Pagnell’s HBB Cards, said: “I’m sitting in my kitchen staring at my award still in a bit of disbelief and still a bit overwhelmed, emotional, a bit hung over, tired but very, very happy. I am so delighted to have won – this award has given me the push that I badly needed. It’s recognition I did it and can do it!”
