Ian Bradley takes a charity break

Cardgains’ challenge practice poses threat to a poor sausage sarnie!

Getting in some training for Cardgains’ It’s Not Grim Up North charity challenge saw sales agent Ian Bradley take a break in a less than comfortable way.

The bench he plonked down on for lunch completely collapsed underneath him – luckily Rush Design publisher wife Lorraine whipped out her phone to capture the scene for posterity, and thankfully the sausage sarnie wasn’t harmed!

Ian and Lorraine were out on Sunday, 21 April, clocking up the miles in their preparation for this year’s Cardgains challenge, which will mark the buying group’s 35th anniversary with a matching £35,000 fundraising target for mental health charity Mind.

“We did another big walk and stopped for a well-needed rest and sausage sarnie, when this happened!” Ian told PG Buzz. “The sausage sarnie was not compromised but this pic alone has to be worth a few shekels into the charity coffers – our fundraising page is here!”

The pair are among 29 greeting card industry folk signed for the 17.5mile It’s Not Grim Up North walk that follows the Sheffield Round Walk loop that connects the steel city’s centre with its surrounding countryside, plus a bit extra to get to and from the challenge base at The Hilton Doubletree Hotel, in Chesterfield Road – and the really keen can go round twice to hit a 35mile total.

Cardgains md Penny Shaw said: “It’s only 10 weeks away on 29 June, so I hope the training has begun, thanks to everyone who has joined the team on JustGiving and got their fundraising underway, we’re at 3% of our £35,000 target already with the main fundraising page and others.”

Everyone across the greeting card and gifts industry is invited to participate, you don’t have to be a retail or supplier member of the buying group, and anyone who has recently been involved in Cardgains’ charity challenges has been sent an email with the details.

To register to take part in It’s Not Grim Up North click here, or the registration form is pictured below, which can be printed off to complete then scanned or photographed and emailed to kerry@bridewelluk.co.uk. Once registered, walkers will be added to the email distribution list and future emails will come from the email address ItsNOTGrimUpNorth@cardgains.co.uk.

For this year there is a minimum £250 fundraising requirement for each participant, and a JustGiving site has already set up for direct donations, with walkers asked to let Cardgains know of any personal sites so a running total can be calculated.
