Staycation Bonanza: Lorraine Blunt of Issey In Mevagissey, Cornwall Is Ready!

The fact that few of us are likely to be venturing beyond UK shores this year for our holidays should signal a bonanza time for retailers located in UK hotspots – and Cornwall is most definitely high up the ‘wishlist’ for many.

Ditching its passport, PG Buzz ventured to South Cornwall to find out how Lorraine Blunt, owner of Issey in Mevagissey is ready and waiting to welcome the wave of staycationers in her part of the world.

Over to Lorraine to share her holiday notes…

“By all accounts it does look like Mevagissey, as a tourist destination, will be up to full capacity this holiday season, and full of buzz – we’ll be ready for that!”

What are you doing to capitalise on the UK holiday mood?

“The last lockdown gave me a chance to pull my shops apart by redecorating and remerchandising to make them look super sparkling.

Holidaymakers will hopefully enjoy the locally-themed products we have added, such as the Cornishware mugs emblazoned the local greeting “Alright?” Yeah, you?” as well as the localised greeting cards from Wot Ma Like.”

What would be your ‘must visit’ tip for those visiting Mevagissey?

“I live in Port Mellon, a beautiful cove, and it was always my ambition to be able to walk to work and to wrap things up in tissue paper. So, in 2004 I gave up my job as a training manager for BT to open the shops and share the glory of where we live. I would urge everyone who comes this way to go to the Fountain Inn and order fish & chips, then walk round the harbour and see if you can spot any seals.”

If there was a magic carpet waiting (and no pandemic) where would you want to go?

“Bob, my partner and I, have such a hanker to go back to Lanzarote – just to kick back and relax.”
