Belly Button Goes Totally Wild At PG Live

In what Rachel Hare, founder of Belly Button Designs as a “massive launch” for the design-led publisher, its stand at PG Live (which opens tomorrow, Tuesday 4 June at London’s BDC) will be completely dedicated to its new Wild Thing brand.

“I was determined to create a collection that would have the ‘wow’ factor on the design and quality fronts yet hit the £2.99 price point which is so key for indies,” Rachel told PG Buzz. “I started the moodboard for the collection last May, but it has taken me three attempts before I was happy with it,” she added.

The unlikely ‘eureka moment’ for the neon inked, highly foliaged and animal card range came when Rachel was planning the interior design of her own kitchen.

“I was considering a bold mural featuring foliage and brightly coloured jungle animals and Giles [Rachel’s husband] reminded me of a design featuring a pink leopard that I had included in our Coco range – and that became the real starting point for Wild Thing,” explained Rachel.

The inaugural Wild Thing collection spans 72 everyday designs, plus 18 Spring Seasons cards.

The range has strong environmental credentials. The cards are printed on 100% recycled FSC-certified uncoated board and come with a bright magenta-coloured envelope that has been made specially for Belly Button from recycled paper.

The cards are being offered either unwrapped with a Kard Klasp or in a compostable bag. Plus, the in-transit outer packaging is to be replaced with a paper band.

A stated on the back of each card that the environmental measures taken is ‘A step forward in reducing carbon emissions and taking care of the planet for all to enjoy’.

Belly Button Designs will be launching Wild Thing at PG Live, which takes place tomorrow and the day after (Tuesday 4 June and Wednesday 5 June at London’s Business Design Centre).
