Scribbler expands with Lite kiosk

Fujifilm partnership develops to offer 2,000 cards from wall-mounted or countertop display

 

Scribbler and Fujifilm have expanded their collaboration with the Lite version of the in-store kiosk, giving retailers access to 2,000 greeting cards within a wall-mounted display.

Having taken greeting card print-on-demand to a whole new level with the roll-out of its first instant card kiosk in a footprint of less than one metre square – which was showcased to the industry at PG Live in June – Scribbler Lite works on the same principle, but in a compact countertop or wall-mounted option, thereby broadening its appeal.

“With the UK selling 1.4billion greetings cards a year, both Scribbler and Fujifilm want to help businesses access the full potential of this profitable market,” said Scribbler commercial director Tom Procter.

“By including the Scribbler Lite as one of their services, retailers across the country can have what is effectively a Scribbler store on a single device, gaining access to our ever-growing number of designs for any occasion.

“As our partnership with Fujifilm continues, we hope more businesses can sell high quality cards to their customers throughout the year.”

The Scribbler Kiosk was launched last year and has already grown to more than 30 installations across the country in retail spaces, office premises, education sites and hospitals across the country, plus the home goods retailer Harvey Norman is installing kiosks in all its 16 stores in the Republic Of Ireland.

Designed for easy use through the sleek touch-screen display, the public can search for the perfect card for any occasion, as well as write their personal message inside in the font, size, and colour of their choice. Once complete, the product is printed behind the till using the Fujifilm CX3240 creative duplex printer and is ready for collection in 60 seconds.

The easy-to-use software gives smaller retailers, such as convenience stores and newsagents, as well as commercial premises, the chance to carry an extensive range of greeting cards in a small space without the risk of waste due to overstock or requiring the footprint of a photo kiosk, which Scribbler believes will be a particular benefit during seasons such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day, when stock can be difficult to predict and so can result in cards going to waste.

Jon Difford, head of sales at Fujifilm UK, commented: “Helping customers find the perfect card can be difficult when you have limited space and want to carry other products. Scribbler Lite aims to change this, with customers being able to find the best option and allowing businesses to carry a wider range of stock to increase their appeal. With the system in place, people won’t be leaving the store without the perfect card.”

Scribbler is well known for its humorous greeting cards, often erring on the naughty side, and the system currently offers 2,000 designs, many of which have proved themselves as bestsellers in its own 34 retail outlets across England, Scotland and Wales, as well as on its online portal.

And the Harvey Norman contract came with a request for confirmation and communion designs for the Irish market that the publisher’s team has been working on.

The software provides regular content updates, which allows stores seasonal options for religious festivals and celebrations such as Ramadan, Diwali, Pride and Mental Health Awareness Week, while designs showcasing a wide range of diversity and inclusiveness are also available.

When new content is released, the software can be updated within 24 hours, making the latest cards available to customers quickly, and the display also shows a trending banner that allows users to see which designs are currently the most popular across the country.

“We’re hugely excited to be working with Fujifilm, the Rolls-Royce of this technology, as well as our partner designers to launch what is, effectively, a Scribbler store in a box,” the retailer’s co-founder and md John Procter told PG Buzz.
