Paper Salad Scores A Hat Trick In The Louie US Awards

Paper Salad is on something of a winning streak. The Manchester-based greeting card publisher’s success is now spanning the Atlantic, as Paper Salad had a triple triumph in The Louie Awards, the US equivalent of The Henries. While The Henries awards are for greeting card ranges, the Louie awards are for individual greeting cards.

Organised by the US Greeting Card Association, the 32nd Annual Louie Awards ceremony took place virtually last Thursday. Some 544 cards in 36 categories were whittled down to 111 finalists by a panel of 27 judges to arrive at the 36 winners – and three of these were from Paper Salad!

The company won the coveted Birthday General ($5 and below) category with a balloon design from its Hunky Dory range; the Get Well/Feel Better award ($5 and below) with a design from its Gold Dust range as well as the Children’s Card award. This is not only the second year in succession that Paper Salad has won the Children’s Card award in The Louies (in 2020, a  Jamboree design received the award), but the publisher has also won the Best Children’s Range award in The Henries for the last two years too. Hoopla won The Henries 2020 and Jamboree the year prior.

Commenting on their recent Louie wins, Claire Williams, who co-owns the company with Karen Wilson, exclaimed: “We are over the moon! We are still a little shocked as we really didn’t expect to win all three categories!”

As Karen and Claire had a meeting with London-based retailer Postmark on the day of the Louie virtual awards ceremony (July 8), Mark Janson-Smith watched the ceremony with them. “Not quite the same as an actual awards ceremony or being in New York/San Fran in person, but we are still delighted!” added Claire.

Closer to home, Paper Salad is also up for a business award, having reached the finals in the Stockport Business Awards. The Romily-based company is one of three finalists in the Business of the Year (Turnover £1m-£3m). It is up against two recruitment firms, Jobwise and Odin Recruitment. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in October.

“It is always lovely to reach the finals and win awards, but right now, we are more excited at the prospect of seeing everyone at PG Live in two weeks (July 27 and 28). We really can’t wait!”
