Experts Are Primed For GCA Q&A On Brexit Implications For The Card Sector

While the Brexit deal has been done – and greeting cards are not subject to additional tariffs – with the agreement reached in the final hour there is still much confusion as to the ins and the outs of UK card publishers dealing with the EU.

But help is at hand! In addition to a comprehensive and continually updated blog post on its website (https://www.gca.cards/brexit-updates-dec-2020/) the GCA has wasted no time in drawing together a panel of experts who will meet next Tuesday (January 26) and share the breadth of their knowledge on the Brexit transition and how it will affect greeting card publishers.

Above: Information is still coming to light to clarify those in the UK doing trade with the EU.

The Panel includes:

David Bowen, managing director of Easy Logistics
David Byk, ceo of Swan Mill (Ling Design, GBCC and Penny Kennedy) and GCA Council member

Jeremy Corner, managing director of Blue Eyed Sun and GCA Council member (who received a Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2016)

Michael Gray, owner of MEG (distributor for many card publishers into Ireland)

David Falkner, director of Cardology

Richard Hall, team lead at Department of International Trade (DIT)

Ged Mace, managing director of The Art File and GCA Council member (who received a Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2018)

As Amanda Fergusson, ceo of the GCA highlighted: “Exporting has always been an important part of the UK greeting card industry. It is something that needs to be perpetuated by helping to safeguard and facilitating those international relationships by ensuring that we give our members the correct information as to how to trade with those in the EU post Brexit.”

Above: Amanda Fergusson, ceo of the GCA has attended a series of meetings with Govt bodies on the issue of Brexit on the industry’s behalf.

Among the areas to be covered at the meeting will include, the tariff implications, rules of origin, the paperwork as well as specific rules of trading with Northern Ireland.

While many GCA members have already submitted questions on the subject, which will be put forward to the panel, members have until 10am on Monday (January 25) to contact Amanda with theirs via amanda@gca.cards
