Card Fame From Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, Jo Whiley And Cliff Richard

Greeting cards are well up there in the fame game, having soared to prominence of late, thanks to top celebrity endorsement, revelations and a significant birthday.

“Christmas cards are great – we should all send them,” was the positive message that the BBC presenter Jo Whiley sent out on her Radio 2 programme last week. Giving a thumbs-up to early Christmas card sending to the 1.7 million listeners of The Jo Whiley Show, the super popular DJ was delighted to read out a request for a ‘shout out’ from a fan who was listening while making her Christmas cards. Jo shared her love of Christmas cards, giving a special mention to those that are handmade.

Equally unexpected, and incredibly musically-significant was the revelation by rock legend, Dave Grohl on Sky TV recently, that it was the receiving of a greeting card that was to mark the start of the Foo Fighters.

It was when the former drummer of Nirvana was still reeling from the death of the band’s front man, Kurt Cobain in 1994 that he received the card that would lead to the formation of one of the most important rock bands of today.

Speaking on the Sky Arts programme, Dave revealed: “Someone sent me this card that said basically ‘I’m sure you don’t want to play music right now, but some day you will and that’s what will save your life. That card was really the beginning of the Foo Fighters because I thought, I don’t know what I’m going to do, but I have to do something.”

Another legend of the music business has given great cause for industry celebration, especially as today is his own significant birthday!

Today (October 14), marks the 80th birthday of Sir Cliff Richard, and the media has not let the milestone of this legendary pop icon go unmarked.

The newspaper and online newsite of The Daily Express has gone all out to celebrate the ‘Peter Pan of Pop’s’ birthday, including a competition, being run in conjunction with Danilo to win Cliff Richard’s 2021 calendars. Of the 50 calendats being given away, three of these have been signed by Cliff himself.

Danilo has also launched a competition with Calendar Club to giveaway some signed 2021 official Cliff calendars, backed up by a raft of social media activity.

And not to forget the all-important birthday card for the pop icon, “We have arranged for a large personalised birthday card, sent from everyone at Danilo to arrive with Cliff today,” assured Claire Bates, marketing manager of Danilo.
