Devon-based greeting card publisher Sue Morrish, co-founder of The Eco-friendly Card Company is known for speaking out about issues she believes in, notably about improving the environmental credentials of our sector.
However, it was a matter very to her heart that prompted her to take action this week.
As part of the activity surrounding Sepsis Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness of what is known as ‘the silent killer’ disease, Sue participated in a very moving live Facebook interview about sepsis awareness with mum’s support group ‘Mummy’s Gin Fund’.
Sue bravely shared the story of what happened to her son, Sam, who very sadly died of sepsis when he was just three years old and then went on to discuss questions about sepsis with Mummy’s Gin Fund founder, Helen Hamston, who also signed the event so that the deaf community could understand.
As Sue explained: “Sepsis occurs when the body starts to attack its own organs as a response to infection. It can affect anyone and can take hold very quickly. However if spotted and treated early it is treatable with antibiotics which is why it’s so important that people know the warning signs.”
Sue brought along Sam’s toy monkey to appear in the live broadcast. Sam’s monkey also appears alongside Dr Ranj Singh (who is currently appearing on Strictly Come Dancing) in a video encouraging flu vaccinations to help parents spot the signs of sepsis.
Sue will be speaking at next month’s GCA AGM (October 17) sharing her knowledge and passion about environmental credentials.
