The Works’ IPO Repeats Success For Dean Hoyle, Card Factory’s Co-Founder

Dean Hoyle, who co-founded Card Factory with his wife Janet is continuing his success at retail with the IPO for The Works, of which he is a major shareholder having been over-subscribed when it floated on the stock exchange recently.

Although greeting cards are not a major product area for The Works, the fast growing value retailer has nonetheless upped the profile of cards in its 400+ stores since Dean came on board as a shareholder and chairman. In its 2018 financial year, The Works’ like-for-like sales surged 14.3%. Over the last three financial years, it has opened a net 134 new stores and concessions. It has ambitions to grow to a group of 1,000 shops.

With the retailer’s flotation on the London stock exchange having been hailed a success, Dean can now dedicate more time to his other major concern of Huddersfield Town Football Club, which he owns.

When asked by PG Buzz whether retailing or football was easier at the moment, Dean was quick to respond: “Retailing, as long as it’s kept simple!!!!”

When drawn on Huddersfield’s chances on the current football season, Dean admitted to PG Buzz: “It will be a challenge, but as you know, I like a good challenge!”
