Publisher Poet and Painter take on the plight of the pug

When Lucy Creed and Bryn Dineen of publishing company Poet and Painter heard about the British Veterinary Association’s #BreedtoBreathe campaign when it was highlighted by the GCA, they decided to create a greeting card in support of the campaign.

The Good, The Bad and The Pugly card will launch at PG Live.

“At Poet and Painter we see card designing very much as a vehicle for communicating our ideas, a messaging device,” says Lucy. “We started out three years ago through wanting to share original poetry and artwork with a wider audience, and as the brand has grown we have added other ideas which we feel are relevant and inclusive, and often we hope, funny. Though often humour based, we try our best to be responsible and relatable in our messaging.”

New designs will also be on show at PG Live.

Lucy continues: “We are animal lovers, and when we were alerted to the issues around pugs and their breathing problems via an email circulated by Sharon Little, ceo of the GCA, we felt a card was a great device for communicating this message and sharing this crucial information with those people who enjoy the images of pugs, but aren’t necessarily aware of their serious health related issues. We hope we’ve managed to do this in a non-judgemental and humorous way.”

The card will include the following text on the back: ‘We love pugs, but it’s sadly true that Brachycephalic pets, like pugs, boxer dogs and persian cats, may look charmingly squishy-faced, but those same traits mean that they often struggle with serious and life limiting health problems due to their breeding. You can find out more from the British Veterinary Association, or through their #BreedtoBreathe campaign’

Commenting on the action by the plucky plublisher, Sharon Little, ceo of the GCA told PG Buzz: “We received so many enthusiastic messages of support from members after I sent them the British Veterinary Association’s plea for our industry’s support for their #Breedtobreathe campaign – but this lovely initiative from Poet and painter goes the extra mile!”

Poet and Painter will be launching The Good, The Bad and The Pugly at PG Live (5-6 June) along with a collection of other brand new designs.
