The Art Group is ‘feline’ the cat’s whiskers about a ‘purrfect’ new tie-up

With cat-related imagery being seen as the ‘purrfect’ choice for greeting cards, The Art Group is ‘feline’ good about its latest collection, based on designs by artist Angie Rozelaar.

Talented artist Angie Rozelaar, from Planet Cat Studio took up the online challenge to illustrate a hundred cats in a hundred days last year on Instagram. The project started to gather momentum and she soon found that 100 was just the beginning!

Artists agency, Yellow House Art Licensing is working with Angie to develop the Planet Cat Studio brand and has recently signed a deal with The Art Group to produce some of the designs as a collection of greeting cards. While this is the first licensing deal for Angie, she has illustrated picture books for Bloomsbury, Campbell, Egmont and Hodder.

Commenting Sue Bateman, director for Yellow House Art Licensing said: “The illustrations are charming and full of character. Each illustration portrays a totally individual cat, and despite the simplicity of the image we get a strong indication of just who they are and what they are thinking. The humour in the work and the apt quotes that Angie uses will give the work wide appeal.”

Sue continues: “We think that there is huge potential for the illustrations on a variety of product; tee-shirts, ceramics, tableware, and have already had firm interest from a number of companies. A solid greeting card license is a good start for any brand and we think that the designs available will work well for The Art Group. There is the potential to extend the range and for it to work for occasions and seasons and for the range to be popular for years to come.”

Angie grew up in Kent, and has since lived in London, Brighton, Devon, Sweden and France. She studied at Chelsea Art School, and later graduated in Humanities from Exeter University. Angie is now based in the Normandy countryside where she shares an old farmhouse with her family, four cats and two rescue donkeys. She works from her studio in a converted hayloft and using all sorts of materials to create her illustrations, including watercolour crayons, gouache, and a computer.
