Scribbler opened its first store ever in Newcastle at the weekend and its selection of cards went down a storm with the Tynesiders immediately.

“Newcastle has been in our sights for some time, but we waited until a store became available, which we felt was correctly suited for our profile,” Jennie Procter, co-founder of the Scribbler chain told PG Buzz. Jennie explained that “Scribbler is better placed on a street, rather than a shopping centre” so the location of the new 580 sq ft shop unit, in Grainger Street, is “excellent; one minute from Grays Monument and clearly visible, with Cath Kidston and Starbucks on either side of the store. Urban Outfitters and Space NK also trade in Grainger Street, and The White Company and Carluccios are nearby.”

The Scribbler team put in a monumental effort to open the store on Saturday (November 18) in order to coincide with the launch of the Newcastle Christmas Market nearby.

The new store, “filled, immediately, with shoppers,” explained Jennie with the product selection being “received well, with a great deal of laughter!”

The addition of the Newcastle store means that Scribbler is now trading from 36 stores, having closed one in London’s Stratford and one of its Covent Garden units.

Growth is still very much on the cards. “We have identified several other towns and cities for new store openings, but we do not want to jinx them!” said Jennie.

The store opening’s timing means that Christmas cards are very much part of the offer.
