Loxleys Comes Up With Non-Plastic Solutions For Charity Christmas Packs And Eurohooks

Continuing its campaign to reduce the environmental impact of greetings cards for publishers and retailers, Sheffield-based greeting card printers, Loxleys has come up with a packaging alternative for charity Christmas multi-packs, which supercede the need to use plastic.

In addition, it has also made a breakthrough with a design for a non-plastic euro-hook that can be used for single cards as well as multipacks.

As part of the Sherwood group, Loxleys has been working closely with the Sherwood design team to develop cost effective non-plastic solutions for Charity Christmas card multipacks. As Tony Lorriman, md of Loxleys explains: “Traditionally this sector has been reliant on OPP plastic cellobag packaging, however we have now developed some effective board sleeve alternatives which do away with the need for plastic.”

The solution is a die-cut board casing which holds the cards and envelopes secure, providing areas for text, but does away with the need for cellowrap.

In tandem with this product development, the Loxleys and Sherwood teams have also tackled euro hooks, another area of single use plastics in the industry.

“We have been working to develop cost effective non-plastic solutions for euro hooks to display both single cards and Charity Christmas card multipacks at retail and have come up with a prototype alternative,” reveals Tony referring to the design for a cardboard euro hook which is strong enough to display the cards yet flexible enough to use.

These two new additions joins Loxleys’ suite of environmentally friendly solutions (which include home-compostable cellobags, Secure-Seal labels to affix a card to the envelope, eco-glitters, plastic-free alternatives to gems and ‘glue dots’).

The next big project on the Loxleys’ solutions agenda is non-plastic solutions for secondary packaging to replace transit packaging.

Reinforcing the company’s commitment to environmental improvements, Alice Buck, Loxleys’ marketing coordinator, stated how the company will “continue to work on reducing the environmental impact of our operations and products. Our eco-range has allowed us to bring to market new sustainable solutions, specifically focused around plastic reduction. It is great to see more and more publishers switching to sustainable materials and processes. With further new product development across all areas of our business in the pipeline we forward to working with customers and suppliers to implement these solutions.”

The first images are of our paper band solution for multi card charity packs, these can be branded with publishers logo, can include a in-built euro hook to eliminate plastic and are completely recyclable.

The second image is of our euro-hook card which is currently in development. An inbuilt euro-hook to the card that the buyer can tear off when sending on to the recipient so again it eliminates the plastic euro-hook.
