Paper supply staff trek 109,000 miles in Olympics charity challenge
With the Paris Olympics in full swing, the team from paper company Antalis are celebrating their own gold medal achievement, completing 109,891miles (176,852kms) to raise money for various charities.
Employees from across the world joined in the Walk Olympic 2024 challenge, which was organised from the paper and board supply company’s HQ in the French capital, and the aim for the 1,331 participants was to walk as many steps as possible in 25 days to improve physical and mental health, strengthen team spirit and raise funds for good causes.
The region to walk the most steps was Central and South-Eastern Europe (CSEE), whose 247 participants walked more than 49million steps, equating to almost 23,300miles (37,500kms).
From the UK and Ireland division, the team of 188 participants took a respectable fifth place in the Antalis league table, walking more than 33m steps to clock up 15,720miles (25,300kms).
Each country chose a charity to support, with CSEE raising £4,300 (€5,000) for RO Paralympics Team, while Prostate Cancer UK will received £846 from the British contingent, and Irish Antalis colleagues chose Alzheimers Society Of Ireland, raising £430 (€500).
Tim Longley, Antalis’ hr director UK and Ireland, said: “With the Olympic Games in Paris this summer, it seemed an ideal time for colleagues across Antalis to get walking, get healthy and raise money for good causes. It also provided a bit of fun and healthy competition with our colleagues around the globe.”
