Meet Nacho, UKG’s special Snowdog

Publisher’s sculpture celebrates creativity and sentiment with art trail helping ill adults

Playing chase with the Snowdog is the latest game in West Yorkshire as an art trail of 67 giant sculptures has hit the area, thanks to support from UK Greetings.

The publisher has sponsored Nacho, one of 30 large Snowdogs and 37 Snowdog pups in the event run by The Kirkwood charity which provides specialist care to adults in Kirklees who struggle with advanced progressive illness.

For the trail, towns and villages across the Kirklees area have become home to a pack of fantastically-decorated sculptures of the Snowdog from Raymond Briggs’ much-loved tale of The Snowman And The Snowdog.

Named by UKG colleagues, Nacho has been designed and decorated by the Reilly Creative in a Day Of The Dead theme inspired by The Kirkwood’s work to help families following the loss of a loved one, and the event was hugely anticipated by locals as shown in the video below.

Running for eight weeks through to 31 October, the free art trail around UKG’s home town of Dewsbury and other local towns and villages shows off the very best creative talent from local, regional and national artists, while the pups have been decorated by local schoolchildren.

“A key focus for us this year is to build strong partnerships within our community,” UKG HR director Claire Rusby told PG Buzz, “to make a difference to the people who live and work in our local area. Along with schools and colleges, we’re working with local charities to support their lifechanging work. Last year, funds from our Summer Party were given to The Kirkwood as one of the charities chosen by a colleague, so we know it’s a charity close to their hearts.”

“We look forward to developing our relationship with The Kirkwood and particularly love that the event aligns perfectly with our purpose which is to create happiness, laughter and love through our greeting cards.

“This event is a way of bringing people together to celebrate the creativity and sentiment behind the art trail, all while supporting a great charity.”
