Indies Cite Balloons And Partyware As A Key Growth Sector

Almost a third of independent card retail respondents (29%) to this year’s PG/Cardgains Retail Barometer cited balloons as a key potential growth opportunity for their business. Balloons came in the top 3 product areas that indies highlighted for further diversification – ranking third after stationery (top) and gifts (2nd).

Meanwhile, partyware also ranked highly in the diversification league table in the annual survey, coming equal 5th, alongside fashion accessories, impulse items and jewellery.

For many indies though, balloons and partyware have already proved their worth. Amscan and Qualatex ranges of balloons appeared high in the list of ‘must haves’ when asked in the Retail Barometer survey what ranges of non-greeting card products they could not do without in their shop(s).

Facilitating the growth opportunities, balloon and party expert Amscan has announced that it is instigating a programme of roadshow events throughout the UK.

Kicking off in early September, these events will offer retailers a great chance to see how Anagram and Sempertex products can work to their best effect.

The first two events will be taking place on the 3 September in wholesalers Crosswear Trading Enfield (London) and 24 September at Greetings House Walsall, with further dates and locations to be announced.

The roadshow events will be tailored to the attendees (both beginners and experienced decorators), providing the opportunity to talk to the Amscan team about displays and balloon ranges to equipment and accessories.

Retailers looking to attend should contact the venues directly for more information regarding the structure of the day or to check availability. (Crosswear Trading, 02084 430340; Walsall: Greetings House, 01922 649500).

Gemma’s range of core party tableware lines – as well as balloons, banners and favour packs  – includes Peppa Pig, PJ Masks and Stormtrooper licences, with more to follow in 2019.
