Farewell to Ray Molekamp

One of the leading lights of the industry has passed away

Well known industry stalwart Ray Molekamp, who worked in the greeting card, publishing and print business for 30 years, has sadly died of a brain tumour in his homeland of Holland.

Ray’s career in the greeting acrd industry included working for Athena, The Art Group (before it was acquired by Pyramid and Paper Rose took on the cards side) and was also involved as a consultant to the ArtPress Publishing in its early days, having worked alongside owners Linzi Russell-Watson, Janie Markham and Anne Vine at The Art Group.

Stuart Williams, who heads up Quire Collections UK, but worked with Ray both at The Art Group and Athena, summed up the ebullient Dutchman as “A truly larger than life character.”

Nigel Willcock, sales and marketing director of Paper Rose worked with Ray for many years at The Art Group Nigel said of his former colleague: “He was a great guy, very good to me and probably the most inspiring fun guy I ever worked with. I will miss him.”

Ray’s funeral will be held in Eindhoven at 2pm on 16 May 2017. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you plan to come along could you drop Stuart Williams at Stuart@quire.co.uk a quick note to confirm.
