Face up to card fun

Thortful’s latest tech swaps personalised features on greetings designs

Personalisation just stepped up thanks to artificial intelligence and Thortful combining to create its latest app – Face Swap.

Only available on the online greeting card marketplace’s app, the new Face Swap cards enable users to create funny cards with ease by swapping faces with your favourite – and least favourite – celebrities, characters and personalities.

Thortful’s MD Pip Heywood commented: “We’re taking photocards to the next level with Face Swap – an industry-first feature that combines humour, personalisation, and creativity in a way only Thortful can. It’s a proud milestone for a small but ambitious business, proving an agile business like ours can outpace even the biggest tech giants.”

The platform has integrated templates designed and uploaded by its 6,000-plus local creators and advanced technology and the process analyses the photo uploaded, detecting key facial features such as eyes, nose, mouth, and overall face shape. These features are then digitally extracted and adjusted to match the pose, lighting, and style of the chosen card design, carefully blending your face into the design.

Customer privacy has also been prioritised, by ensuring that no photos are stored with third parties, nor are the images used to train any AI face-swap models.

“Innovation and personalisation are always at the heart of Thortful,” said Peter Davies, chief technical officer. “Our brand-new Face Swap cards combine cutting-edge technology with our commitment to supporting independent creators for the ultimate card personalisation.

“Our use of this technology is focused on enhancing creativity and making the card-giving experience even more fun and meaningful, making sure every card feels as thoughtful as it’s unique – not to mention downright hilarious!”
