Charity begins with Christmas cards

GBCC’s £106,000 donation takes greetings industry’s fundraising to millions over the years

Proving Christmas is most definitely a time for giving, the Great British Card Company (GBCC) has just revealed its 2022 festive charity card packs have raised an astonishing £106,160 for good causes.

“To be able to raise funds and awareness for our chosen charity partners is both a hugely enjoyable and important part of our business,” GBCC ceo David Byk told PG Buzz. “It’s great to know that we and our retailers can support such wonderful charitable organisations.”

David, who is also ceo of Swan Mill Group which owns GBCC, Ling Design and Penny Kennedy, added: “We also know how important sending charity cards is at Christmas – not only does it raise valuable funds for charities but also is incredibly beneficial for the recipient too. We’re delighted with the total raised from the sales of Christmas Charity packs in 2022.

“The charities are very important partners and benefit a lot from card sending at Christmas.”

GBCC’s chosen charities include Parkinson’s UK, NSPCC, Young Minds Matter, Shelter, British Heart Foundation and Alzheimer’s, as well as the MND Association. The latter is the charity that buying group Cardgains is hoping to raise £25,000 for with its 2023 Look Out London annual charity challenge.

This fabulous fundraising news brings the 2022 charity donation from just four greeting card publishers to more than £330,000 – and well into the millions over the past few years.

Last month Abacus Cards revealed it and sister company Clare Maddicott have donated over £71,000 to BHF, Marie Curie UK, Parkinson’s UK and Young Lives Vs Cancer, while The Art File raised £55,000 for the RSPCA, Young Lives Vs Cancer, The MND Association, and Dementia UK from its 2022 Christmas card sales – and over £300,000 in recent years.

And Noel Tatt Group has hit a mighty impressive charity donation milestone from its greeting card sales, having raised over £2million for Help 32 Charities through the sales of its dedicated Christmas card line in a 20-year partnership that will be continuing this festive season.

As Abacus’ md Nick Carey summed up: “There can’t be many other industries like ours which raise such significant sums for charities through the sale of its core product. It’s not just the much-needed money that’s raised for the charities through the sale of the Christmas cards, but the awareness of the good causes, with their details featured on the cards.”
