Cardgains’ Almscliffe Anniversary Amble Raises Approaching £12K For Sue Ryder Charity

Some 30 hardy cardies strode out for 30 miles for charity recently in undertaking the Cardgains 30th anniversary Almscliffe Anniversary Amble – and not only did they all finish the grueling walk, but their collective efforts has seen them raise approaching £12,000 for Sue Ryder, Cardgains’ chosen charity for this year.

Among those who put their best feet forward was House of Cards’ Miles Robinson, representatives from GBCC, Cherry Orchard, Spring Fair/Autumn Fair, Eco-Chic, Pioneer as well as members of the Cardgains team.

While never one to shy from the challenge of business, Miles Robinson, co-owner of House of Cards, the Home Counties based specialist card group, went outside his comfort zone somewhat in undertaking the challenge.

“I’m pleased to say that yes I did complete the epic Cardgains 30mile Almscliffe Anniversary Amble,” exclaimed Miles, justifiably proud that he completed it in his target time of 10 hours, although confessed that he “ended up walking 32 miles as we went the wrong way…twice!!”

Of the route, Miles said: “A couple of hills were brutal but no injuries other than one small blister.”

Summing up, Miles said “It was a fantastic day, enjoying beautiful scenery along with a truly inspiring gang of walkers.”

Penny Shaw, marketing director of the Cardgains buying group which organised the challenge concurred with Miles. “Yes, it was a long way, but the banter and camaraderie keeps you going. This year we had 13 ‘new walkers’ and apart from a few blisters and stiff legs the day after, everyone seemed to take it all in their stride!”

There is still time to donate to the cause as the Justgiving page is still open

This year through the Challenge and other activities, Cardgains is fundraising for the Sue Ryder charity, which supports people through the most difficult times of their lives (offering palliative, neurological and bereavement support) https://www.sueryder.org
