Abacus Cards/Clare Maddicott is giving all retailers who place an order worth over £350 at PG Live three bottles of prime Prosecco, but the Suffolk-based publisher has another reason to pop a few celebratory corks, it has appointed a new managing director, but one who is no stranger to the company ethos. Nick Carey, currently commercial director, freely acknowledges: “I’ve got big shoes to fill,” as he takes over as managing director from his father Brian.  “I’m thrilled to be taking over as managing director of Abacus Cards and Clare Maddicott, we have great customers, great products and a great team. in a vibrant market I can see the only way is up as we grow and expand,” adds Nick.

Brian will still have an active role in the company he founded in 1991 with Jeff Fothergill, taking on the role of executive chairman of the group that also includes Mr Fothergill’s Seeds.

“This is certainly not a ‘swansong’ on my part as Abacus and of course Mr Fothergill’s Seeds form part of my DNA,” said Brian. “But going forward Nick will call the shots, ably assisted by Bev [Cunningham, creative and marketing director] and the team”

Brian assured he will still be in the background, “offering views and opinions and no doubt making the odd coffee!”

Nick starts in the new role with immediate effect, with a short handover period.
