Publishers are crowned King and Queen of Chapel Allerton in recognition of their community support
Card publishing dynamic duo, Wendy and Steve Jones-Blackett of Wendy Jones-Blackett received a surprise last weekend as they were crowned the King and Queen of Chapel Allerton (close to Leeds centre) in the Chapel Allerton Community Awards event.
“What can I say! It was a complete honour even to be nominated, and a bit of fun at the same time,” says Wendy. “Our offices are in the centre of Chapel Allerton and have been for the last 15 years. We live ten minutes’ walk away and it’s a fabulous community, just two miles from the city centre of Leeds.”
As a company it has just sponsored and helped organise the first Chapel Allerton open gardens charity event and opened up their own gardens too. Steve is a trustee of the Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods, which is a conservation group. The publisher produces the group’s cards every year and Steve is part of the committee for its fundraising days and monthly action mornings. “We also use all of our local shops and know the owners very well so I’m assuming that’s why we were nominated!” suggests Wendy.
The Chapel Allerton Open Gardens event was held on 11 June with 16 gardens taking part. There were around 350 visitors, with £1,840 raised for the local hospice, St Gemma’s and the Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods. Wendy Jones-Blackett sponsored the event, with Wendy designing the artwork for the event.
