Winner of The Retas award for Best Retail Initiative in 2016, Knaresborough-based retailer Dragonfly Cards and Gifts has not stopped in coming up with creative ways to engage with its community and draw more customers into the shop.

This time, the promotion celebrates something we can do nothing about – ageing! The retailer mother and daughter duo – Rita Knibbs and Rachael Barnes – are both celebrating big birthdays this year (65 and 40 respectively) which gave them the idea of extending their own milestones to a year long competition for customers who are also celebrating a ‘big day’ or anniversary.

“Any customer celebrating a milestone this year can enter into a prize draw and we’ll pick a winner out each month,” explains Rachael.

Rachael and Rita have already amassed range of prizes, including goody bags full of cards, experience day vouchers and plush. Suppliers, including Cherry Orchard, Noel Tatt, Carte Blanche and Woodmansterne are among Dragonfly’s suppliers to have generously donated prizes.

Of the competition, which is being actively promoted by eye-catching posters instore and on Dragonfly’s Facebook page, Rachael said: “We thought it was good to give something back to our customers in our special year. It is already creating a buzz around the store.”

This follows on from Dragonfly’s full promotional programme which has included a Design a Beanie Boo competition as well as a Thank You Teacher initiative in the last few months.
